Where the smoke fire damper is usually installed

Lists the usual positions for the smoke fire damper: fire compartment crossings, branch ducts, deformation joints, horizontal/vertical junctions, fan room inlets and vertical exhaust branches.

Smoke systems also carry a fire damper. Where is the smoke fire damper usually placed? Here is the answer.

In different settings, the damper sits in different places:

1. Fit the smoke fire damper where its duct crosses a fire compartment.

2. Inside a smoke zone, fit it on the smoke branch duct.

3. If the duct deforms slightly, fit dampers on both sides of the deformation joint.

4. With both horizontal and vertical ducts, fit it on the horizontal section at their junction.

5. In a mechanical system, fit it at the inlet to the smoke exhaust fan room.

6. In daily life, in tight spaces such as kitchens, bathrooms and toilets, where the duct has no backflow prevention, fit the smoke fire damper on the branch of the vertical exhaust duct.
