Nine Components to Inspect Regularly on Air-Cooled Modular Chillers

Air-cooled modular chillers need a nine-point inspection: compressor, safety valve, scaling, oil, drier filter, refrigerant, wiring, pressure switches and thermostat. Following it prevents costly faults.

Why Scheduled Maintenance Matters

An air-cooled modular chiller is built from precision parts, and a single failure can be costly. A routine inspection plan prevents expensive breakdowns and extends equipment life.

The Nine Areas to Check

  • Compressor: The screw is a precision element that defines performance. Have a certified engineer inspect it every two years.
  • Safety valve: Mounted on the condenser, it relieves excess pressure automatically. Check for aging and replace if defective.
  • Scaling: Cooling towers, condensers, evaporators and pipes accumulate scale. Clean them roughly every six months.
  • Lubricating oil: Quality degrades over time; change it at least once a year.
  • Drier filter: Removes moisture from refrigerant; inspect yearly, or every six months in harsh conditions.
  • Refrigerant charge: Top up promptly if low to protect the compressor.
  • Electrical insulation: Verify main wiring, especially in damp environments, to avoid leaks.
  • Hi/Lo pressure switches: These guard the compressor; abnormal readings disrupt operation.
  • Thermostat: Confirm it displays correctly so operators can control temperature.

Takeaway

Treating these nine points as a standing checklist keeps the chiller efficient and reliable.
