AHU Marine Air Handling Unit - Ship Anti Corrosion Air Conditioning Unit

Due to the limitations of the hull itself, most ship cabins have limited space, and some even do not have windows suitable for ventilation with the outside world. This makes it difficult for fresh air from outside the cabin to enter. If crew members are exposed to this environment for a long time, it will inevitably affect their health and lead to low work efficiency. Therefore, ship air handling units have become one of the essential facilities on board. Compared to land-based units, the marine field has more specific requirements for air handling units.

Due to the generally tight space of the ship's hull, it is required that the size of the crew has strong adjustability to adapt to the narrow space of the cabin while meeting performance requirements. The modular structure of AHU marine air handling units can provide flexible and variable unit sizes. Koret can produce 25 standard sizes and various non-standard sizes of ship air handling units, meeting the space limitations of the cabin on the unit size while ensuring performance; The air volume designed for our Koret unit generally ranges from 1000m ³/h to 100000m ³/h.

Marine air handling units must not only adapt to harsh environments such as salt spray, mold, and humidity at sea, but also adapt to irregular movements such as ship sway, turbulence, and tilting. The crew meets the highest requirements for air treatment solutions for ships in extreme and corrosive environments. Standard Coret units are treated with powder coating, which can prevent corrosion. The inner and outer panels of the unit can be made of different materials according to requirements, such as galvanized steel, SS304, and SS316L. The standard color for the crew is RAL7032, and other colors can also be used as needed.

Ships that navigate and dock in the ocean for a long time have higher quality requirements for their crew than land-based ones. Require the unit to prioritize reliability and maintainability while meeting performance indicators and external dimensions, that is, each component must have reliable performance and be easy to maintain. The Koret units have passed ISO9001 certification and are manufactured in accordance with GB/T 14294-2008. The panels and maintenance doors of the unit are equipped with unique liquid soft foam technology instead of manual sealing, ensuring high airtightness and long service life of the box. The unit adopts a thickened 50mm "sandwich" panel structure, with 1mm thick steel plate filled with rock wool, which is non hygroscopic, odorless, and has a fire rating of Class A. Other components of the unit, such as soft joint cloth, are also made of fire-resistant materials; the sealing strip has good thermal insulation, buffering, and weather resistance. Due to the small cabin space, the maintenance of the coil is often limited by space. The coil section of the marine unit adopts a detachable installation guide rail, and the coil can be tilted at a certain angle and pulled out during maintenance, greatly saving maintenance space.

With the increasing demand for comfort and energy efficiency, it is required that ships be equipped with air treatment equipment for energy recovery, in order to reduce the energy consumption of air during cooling and heating processes and lower later operating costs. We can provide suitable solutions for various applications of ship air conditioning units, including unit design and production. At present, in order to achieve energy-saving operation of air conditioning units, the most important thing is to choose and design a suitable energy recovery system. The Coret series provides a rotary heat recovery solution, which greatly improves system energy efficiency and achieves energy-saving goals.

Product Features

1. Provide flexible and versatile unit sizes.

2. Adapt to harsh environments such as salt spray, mold, and humidity at sea.

3. Reliable performance and easy maintenance.

4. It can improve system energy efficiency.

Scope of application

Koret air handling units are suitable for various oil tankers, offshore platforms, marine engineering auxiliary ships, etc.

Design Features for Marine AHU Applications

  • Stainless steel 316L casing with marine-grade epoxy coating for salt spray resistance up to 2,000 hours
  • HEPA H14 filtration optional for crew quarters requiring ISO 14644-1 Class 7 cleanliness
  • Variable frequency drive (VFD) control matching airflow to occupancy, saving 30-50% fan electricity vs. constant-speed operation
  • Integrated condensate drain with water seal trap preventing backflow during vessel pitching
  • Modular construction allows unit transport through standard shipboard doorways (minimum 600 mm width clearance)

When to Choose a Marine AHU Over a Standalone Cabin Unit

  1. Ship length exceeds 30 meters and requires zoned ventilation across multiple decks
  2. Crew accommodation houses 50+ personnel with continuous 24-hour occupancy
  3. Class society requirements (DNV, Lloyd's Register, ABS) mandate logged air change rates
  4. Existing system uses more than 5 kW fan power and shows energy cost growing faster than fuel
Keruite supplies marine AHUs built to class society standards.

Salt Spray Resistance and Coating Standards

  • Marine-grade epoxy coating tested to 2,000 hours salt spray per ASTM B117
  • Stainless steel 316L fasteners prevent galvanic corrosion in humid ocean air
  • Drain pan made of coated carbon steel or stainless steel to resist standing water corrosion
