How to install a fire damper

Six practical points for fitting a fire damper: interlock, clearance, inspection, wall spacing, separate supports and fuse orientation.

1. The fire damper can be interlocked with the ventilation fan and the smoke exhaust fan.

2. Keep at least 200 mm clear on the actuator side for maintenance.

3. Before fitting, check that the actuator is intact and moves freely and effectively.

4. Fit the damper in the duct section close to the wall or floor slab. On the partition-wall side, the damper should be no more than 200 mm from the wall surface. The duct and its insulation within 2.0 m on both sides of the damper must be non-combustible.

5. Support the damper with its own hanger so duct deformation in a fire does not affect its action.

6. Fit the fusible link on the side facing the greater fire risk.
